Let me give you a snapshot of Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH for short)

  • FH is the most common inherited disorder of cholesterol metabolism and is dominantly inherited from parent to child.
  • It is a silent, asymptomatic condition that causes extremely high levels of the bad LDL cholesterol from birth.
  • People with FH can be fit and healthy then out of the blue have a heart attack or stroke at a very young age.
  • Untreated FH can shorten life by decades so we need to treat as early as possible.

The Importance of Treatment

We have all heard stories of young people in their 30’s having heart attacks,

Having worked in coronary care for many years I often asked myself in the past “why is a person so young having a heart attack?" – I now know that is what FH does if left untreated.

Therefore it is imperative to commence treatment as soon as possible.

Treatment saves lives by preventing early onset heart disease
